The landscape of Châteauneuf du Pape

Back to the Gallo-Roman times, the place was already filled with vineyards. By 1316, Pope John XXII, the former bishop of Avignon, insisted on improvement the viticulture practices. Halfway between Avignon and Orange, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its unique landscape was born…
The region is known for its Red wine, however white wine makes up 10% of this region’s best-rated production. During this private tour, you will visit the 13th century ruins of the Châteauneuf du Pape and cellars which few others have the opportunity to see.

The wines of AOC Châteauneuf du Pape

The Mediterranean climate and the Mistral wind contribute to the growing of healthy grapes, among them Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Moreover the winemakers were the forerunners of the AOC system, establishing stric specifications to preserve a maximum quality standard : manual harvest, low yield and no additional irrigation.
In 1937, to build a collective brand with a strong identity, Châteauneuf-du-Pape growers created a special bottle. This iconic embossed bottle is still in use today.

The landscape of Châteauneuf du Pape

Provence in the South of France is considered as the most beautiful place in France, and it stretches all the way from Arles and Avignon to Monaco, anchored by the Mediterranean sea. The region’s natural beauty, its warm climate, picturesque Medieval villages, traditional open markets, colors, aromas, olive oil, sun flowers, lavender fields and of course its wines make Provence an irresistible destination to both the French and to visitors.

What gives Provence its distinctive character and unique wines is, among other things, its particularly diverse landscape swept by the Mistral wind and its warm dry and sunny weather. Provence is more and more popular and recognized for its wines, especially about its rosé wines (some of the World’s best rosés) but it also produces some remarkable strong and full-bodied red wines which can age several years in barrels, as well as tender delicate and airy whites.
